On Saturday, March 16, 2024, the Gator Group Rug Hookers was honored to present local artist Marta Grinberg’s beautiful works of art in the fellowship hall of the Sebastian United Methodist Church, Sebastian Florida. The art of Traditional Rug Hooking was demonstrated by members of the Gator Group as well as hooking friends from other parts of the state.
All totaled there were approximately 80 pieces in the show, some as small as Christmas ornaments to the largest, a spectacular 6’x9’ oval, modified by Nancy Reynolds with permission from Jane McGown Flynn to add an additional ring of flowers to her Burnham Legacy pattern. In addition to the rugs, there were many pillows, dummy boards, Christmas ornaments, handbags, flowers on old bedsprings, two footstools and a couple of stuffed critters.
In addition to allowing us to display her rugs, Marta agreed to speak to those gathered; which included her son and granddaughter who made the trip up from Miami for the event. Marta spoke about a number of her pieces and answered questions from those in attendance about specific pieces and techniques employed in their creation.
